Drop-off Program

The Lower East Side Ecology Center started a community-based compost program in 1990 as a way to offer more recycling options to New York City residents. Today, drop-offs collected at the sites listed below are composted by our in-vessel composting system located in East River Park. Our in-vessel compost facility handles approximately 60 tons of organic materials a year and produces around 15 tons of finished compost - we call it New York Paydirt (see products).
