Free Friday Fishing Clinic Hits the Road: LESEC's Fishmobile coming to the Estuary Near You!

What is a "Fishmobile"?
The Fishmobile is LESEC's idea to combine the educational activity of catch-and-release fishing on the East River with sustainable transportation (a bicycle). Basically, we've attached a custom bike trailer to a tricycle and put all sorts of cool equipment on the trailer!

In June 2008, Sean Meenan's Urban Studio Brooklyn (USBK) and Habana Works partnered with the Lower East Side Ecology Center and pedicab designer George Bliss to design and build a one-of-a-kind mobile wetlab and fishing clinic: The Fishmobile. The human-powered vehicle/spectacle was built by student participants working alongside seasoned design professionals and will be used to deliver environmental education programs in waterfront parks and informal open spaces.

What's on the Fishmobile?
The fishmobile is used to take the Ecology Center's hands-on estuary education programs "on the road", as it were, to spots all along the East River.   Our fabulous fishmobile includes:

•  An estuary sampling and viewing tank

•  A flipup work space microscope observation deck

•  Tangle-free transport for 25 fishing rods

•  Hooks/holders for traps of all sizes, plankton tow, etc

•  Storage for water chemistry and monitoring

•  A place for buckets, bait, lines and traps

•  A colorful estuary shade structure and more!
