The Lower East Side Ecology Center hosts the Manhattan branch of the NYC Compost Project, a compost education and outreach program funded by the NYC Department of Sanitation, Bureau of Waste Prevention, Reuse and Recycling. Programs

NYC Compost Project staff provides customized composting workshops to NYC residents, community gardens, schools, nonprofits, and businesses. These workshops are designed to ensure that New Yorkers can compost no matter what scenario they face. Workshop themes include outdoor composting, indoor wormbin composting, teacher-focused and in-class composting, lawn and yard waste as well as general on-site technical assistance workshops.

 

Master Composter Certification

This comprehensive train-the trainer program includes intensive classroom instruction, field trips, and 30 hours of independent community outreach to help advance on-site composting in NYC.

Compost and Demo Site Program

The NYC Compost Project recognizes locations that have exemplary on-site composting operations, to show New Yorkers the benefits of composting. Technical Assistance

NYC Compost Project sells compost bins, wormbins, and worms at cost. Technical assistance (such as compost bin and sifter builds) is available for your organization's composting efforts.
