The Fish Mobile

The Fish Mobile is a mobile water lab and bicycle-powered science lab for the Ecology Center's water-education programs. In June 2008, the Lower East Side Ecology Center partnered with Urban Studio Brooklyn (USBK), Habana Works and Pedi cab designer George Bliss to design and build a one-of-a-kind mobile wet-lab and fishing clinic: The Fishmobile. Student participants working alongside seasoned design professionals built this human-powered vehicle/spectacle. The Fishmobile is used as an outdoor, mobile laboratory for the Ecology Center's Water in NYC programs to deliver environmental education programs in waterfront parks and informal open spaces throughout the spring, summer and fall. Equipped with holding tanks, microscopes, sampling materials, water testing equipment, aquatic exhibits and graphic displays, and more, the Fishmobile is a perfect combination of estuary education and sustainable transportation.
