SUMMARY:Spring into Street Tree Care Volunteer Event
DESCRIPTION:Join the Lower East Side Ecology Center in welcoming spring by taking care of street trees in the East Village! Volunteers will help remove weeds and litter\, apply compost made from NYC food scraps\, and plant bulbs in local tree beds. Kneeling\, squatting\, or lifting might be among the physical activities. \nSign up Here! \nStreet tree care events serve to both create awareness about NYC’s urban ecology and educate residents on the multitude of benefits healthy trees provide our neighborhoods. The idea is for the food scraps to be repurposed and redistributed back to the community as compost through greening projects. Street tree care events are one of many ways we accomplish this mission and your participation helps to further this cause.

SUMMARY:Repair Café: Electronics and Small Appliances
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a community Repair Café\, where neighbors come together to fix\, learn\, and connect. Whether you have a small appliance or electronic item in need of repair\, or you just want to hang out\, observe\, and learn how things work\, everyone is welcome. Volunteer repairers will work on items on a best-effort basis\, sharing skills and troubleshooting together—repairs are not guaranteed\, but the process is collaborative and educational. \nThis general registration helps us plan for attendance; participants who would like to bring an item for repair will receive a separate follow-up form to share details about their item in advance. Come for the repairs\, stay for the community and curiosity. \nThis workshop is part of our Reuse and Re-Imagine Series – A new series of workshops designed to empower our community with new skills while keeping waste out of landfills. \nFunding provided by the Environmental Protection Fund as administered by NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. \nSign Up \n\n\n[wbcr_js_snippet id=”51623″]

SUMMARY:Jamaica Bay Guided Walk: Winter Birds
DESCRIPTION:Jamaica Bay is home to many bird species during the winter months; spend some time observing them on this guided walk.\n\n\n\nJoin us and Elijah Shiffer for a guided walk at Jamaica Bay\, taking some time to observe the birds found there during winter. \nBirding at Jamaica Bay is exciting in all seasons! In winter\, the focus is on waterfowl. Many male ducks are already in fresh breeding plumage in the winter and engaging in characterful courtship displays. All the widespread species of dabbling ducks are possible on the east and west ponds; on one or the other we may also find a flock of Snow Geese. On the bay side there’s sure to be diving ducks as well as cormorants\, loons\, and grebes. Other birds we’ll be looking for include resident Great Blue Herons and Boat-tailed Grackles\, and the few shorebirds that winter here such as Dunlins and Sanderlings. \n\nSign up here.  \n\nBuy Tickets on Eventbrite\nRegister Here \n \n[wbcr_js_snippet id=”51614″]
