SUMMARY:Clothing Repair with Black Girls Sew
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a hands-on clothing repair and mending workshop in partnership with Black Girls Sew. In this beginner-friendly session\, participants will learn practical skills to help extend the life of their clothing and reduce textile waste. \nYou’ll learn basic repair techniques such as mending small holes\, sewing on a button\, and simple hand-sewing methods that can be used for everyday clothing fixes. Whether you’re brand new to sewing or just want to build confidence with basic repairs\, this workshop will provide the tools and guidance to get started. \nAll participants will receive a small take-home repair kit so you can continue mending and caring for your clothes at home. The workshop is open to all and all materials will be provided. \nThis workshop is part of our Reuse and Re-Imagine Series – A new series of workshops designed to empower our community with new skills while keeping waste out of landfills. \nFunding provided by the Environmental Protection Fund as administered by NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. \nSign Up →

DESCRIPTION:During Climate Week\, Lower East Side Ecology Center is pleased to present a day of birdwatching with LESC and Elijah Shiffer. \nIn September\, the fall bird migration is well underway\, with more than 100 species passing through New York’s parks and gardens on their way to their fall grounds. Join Elijah Shiffer to observe the many species of birds stopping by Governors Island Park and its native plants for some nourishment and rest. Bring binoculars and a camera if you have them. \nMeet outside the LMCC’s Art Center on Saturday\, September 27 at 10:00 am. Try catching the boatride from 9:30am or earlier.\nSign Up!
