DESCRIPTION:Join us for a community clothing swap—refresh your wardrobe for spring while reducing textile waste and connecting with your neighbors. Together\, we can keep perfectly good clothing out of landfills\, share what we already have\, and remember that collectively\, we have more than enough to go around. \nBring clean\, gently used clothing that no longer serves you—whether it no longer fits or just doesn’t spark joy—and exchange it for something new-to-you. For every item you contribute\, you’ll receive one token (up to 15 total)\, which can be used to “shop” the swap. \nClothing contributions can be dropped off at the Center for Wellbeing and Happiness on Saturday May 9 between 10:30am and 4:30pm or on Tuesday May 12 between 2:00 and 5:00pm. \nRegistration is encouraged but not required. \nThis workshop is part of our Reuse and Re-Imagine Series – A new series of workshops designed to empower our community with new skills while keeping waste out of landfills. \nFunding provided by the Environmental Protection Fund as administered by NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.\n\nSign up

DESCRIPTION:Slow Circuits is a participatory weaving circle where participants will collectively weave a textile installation from discarded electronic wires. The process is accompanied by a facilitated discussion that explores the extractive origins of technologies\, their lifecycles\, and their afterlives. \nBy slowing down the pace of technological consumption and inviting tactile engagement with the remnants of our digital lives\, Slow Circuits transforms waste into a medium of connection and care\, inviting participants to confront their own entanglements within global extractive supply chains while learning practical skills for repair and reuse. Through this collective practice\, the workshop makes visible the material and ecological costs embedded in our technologies and examines how the pace\, planned obsolescence and linearity of modern technology proliferation exacerbates inequities along race\, gender\, and class lines.\n\nSign Up >

SUMMARY:Prospect Park Guided Walk: Spring Birds
DESCRIPTION:Prospect Park is home to many bird species during the spring months; spend some time observing them on this guided walk. \nJoin us and Elijah Shiffer for a guided walk at Prospect Park\, taking some time to observe the birds found there during spring. \nThe peak of spring migration may still be a month away\, but early April is already an exciting time for birding in Prospect Park. Several early migrants are passing through that will have moved on by May. We’ll be on the lookout for Eastern Phoebes\, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers\, Louisiana Waterthrushes\, and the earliest of the warblers such as Pine and Palm. The lake may be where we find the most new arrivals including Ospreys\, herons\, egrets and swallows. DESCRIPTION:Don’t let those flowers and food scraps go to waste! Use them to create color and dye fabric naturally before sending them to the compost pile. Join the LES Ecology Center for a hands-on workshop and learn how to bundle dye using flowers and food waste. \nBeyond the basics of bundle dyeing\, we’ll also explore the impacts of food and textile waste. Participants will leave with their very own bundle dyed handkerchief. This workshop is best suited for adults. \nAll materials are provided but feel free to bring your own dried or wilting flower bouquet\, colorful vegggie scraps\, or other organic material you want to experiment with. \nThis workshop is part of our Reuse and Re-Imagine Series – A new series of workshops designed to empower our community with new skills while keeping waste out of landfills. \nFunding provided by the Environmental Protection Fund as administered by NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. \nSign Up
