DESCRIPTION:Slow Circuits is a participatory weaving circle where participants will collectively weave a textile installation from discarded electronic wires. The process is accompanied by a facilitated discussion that explores the extractive origins of technologies\, their lifecycles\, and their afterlives. \nBy slowing down the pace of technological consumption and inviting tactile engagement with the remnants of our digital lives\, Slow Circuits transforms waste into a medium of connection and care\, inviting participants to confront their own entanglements within global extractive supply chains while learning practical skills for repair and reuse. Through this collective practice\, the workshop makes visible the material and ecological costs embedded in our technologies and examines how the pace\, planned obsolescence and linearity of modern technology proliferation exacerbates inequities along race\, gender\, and class lines.\n\nSign Up >

SUMMARY:Prospect Park Guided Walk: Spring Birds
DESCRIPTION:Prospect Park is home to many bird species during the spring months; spend some time observing them on this guided walk. \nJoin us and Elijah Shiffer for a guided walk at Prospect Park\, taking some time to observe the birds found there during spring. \nThe peak of spring migration may still be a month away\, but early April is already an exciting time for birding in Prospect Park. Several early migrants are passing through that will have moved on by May. We’ll be on the lookout for Eastern Phoebes\, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers\, Louisiana Waterthrushes\, and the earliest of the warblers such as Pine and Palm. The lake may be where we find the most new arrivals including Ospreys\, herons\, egrets and swallows. There should also be some lingering winter waterbirds here- diving ducks\, American Coots\, and maybe grebes or loons- which would be a lot less likely to find later in the spring. \n\nBuy Tickets on Eventbrite\n\nSign Up

DESCRIPTION:Join Lower East Side Ecology Center w/ Earth Celebrations’ artist in residence Katherine Freygang to paint a mural celebrating urban climate\n\n\n\nJoin Lower East Side Ecology Center and Earth Celebrations’ artist-in-residence Katherine Freygang to paint a mural celebrating urban climate solutions\, which will be featured in the Ecological City – Procession for Climate Solutions. \nWe’ll be painting at the amphitheater in front of the Fireboat House \nThe event is open to the public and welcomes families. Even if it appears sold out\, you’re welcome to drop by between 12 pm and 3 pm for painting activities. \nEarth Celebrations’ ECOLOGICAL CITY: Art & Climate Solutions Action Project applies the arts to build community\, collaboration\, and action on climate solution initiatives to mitigate climate change impacts of flooding\, carbon pollution\, and the consequences of sea-level rise throughout the network of community gardens\, neighborhood and waterfront on the Lower East Side of New York City. \nGardeners\, artists\, residents\, youth\, and over 50 community partner organizations collaborate through 9 months of creative engagement\, partnership building\, and Art & Climate Solutions Workshops\, developing visual art and performances exploring local sustainability sites and their climate solution initiatives. \nThe community presents their inspiring sustainable urban ecosystem and artistic works created through the workshops\, in the culminating Ecological City: Procession for Climate Solutions on Saturday\, May 9\, 2026. SUMMARY:Jamaica Bay Guided Walk: Winter Birds
DESCRIPTION:Jamaica Bay is home to many bird species during the winter months; spend some time observing them on this guided walk.\n\n\n\nJoin us and Elijah Shiffer for a guided walk at Jamaica Bay\, taking some time to observe the birds found there during winter. \nBirding at Jamaica Bay is exciting in all seasons! In winter\, the focus is on waterfowl. Many male ducks are already in fresh breeding plumage in the winter and engaging in characterful courtship displays. All the widespread species of dabbling ducks are possible on the east and west ponds; on one or the other we may also find a flock of Snow Geese. On the bay side there’s sure to be diving ducks as well as cormorants\, loons\, and grebes.
