DESCRIPTION:Composting is a sacred ritual of transformation\, honoring the cycle of life\, death\, and rebirth. We’ll begin with a sensory tea ceremony\, then write down something we’re ready to release. Finally\, we’ll compost the tea leaves and our notes\, trusting the earth to transform them—and ourselves. \nThis event is part of International Compost Awareness Week. Sessions will begin approximately at 12PM\, 1PM\, and 2PM. While waiting for the next session\, participants can enjoy a painting with food scraps activity\, a playful and creative way to transform your scraps into art. \nThis event is a collaboration between Tea\, Arts & Culture\, the Lower East Side Ecology Center\, and Pancho’s Garden. Private support is provided by City Parks Foundation and Partnerships for Parks through the NYC Green Fund.

Together\, we can keep perfectly good clothing out of landfills\, share what we already have\, and remember that collectively\, we have more than enough to go around. \nBring clean\, gently used clothing that no longer serves you—whether it no longer fits or just doesn’t spark joy—and exchange it for something new-to-you. For every item you contribute\, you’ll receive one token (up to 15 total)\, which can be used to “shop” the swap. \nClothing contributions can be dropped off at the Center for Wellbeing and Happiness on Saturday May 9 between 10:30am and 4:30pm or on Tuesday May 12 between 2:00 and 5:00pm. \nRegistration is encouraged but not required. \nThis workshop is part of our Reuse and Re-Imagine Series – A new series of workshops designed to empower our community with new skills while keeping waste out of landfills. \nFunding provided by the Environmental Protection Fund as administered by NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.\n\nSign up

Hell’s Kitchen Commons accepts food scraps at Mathews Palmer Park (45th between 9th/10th Ave) during the park’s open hours. \nThis is a community-managed compost drop-off site. Participants are asked to ensure the area remains clean and the bin lids remain closed after food scraps are dropped off. Participants must follow the guidelines for what to contribute. You are also invited to join the Hell’s Kitchen Commons volunteer team.
