Learn about the importance of seed saving for local community and ecosystems in East River Park and Pier 42
As our season is coming to a close, we are coming together to collect the seeds we have been growing in East River Park and Pier 42. Join us to connect with community and cycles of nature in this lesson and walk through seed collecting!
Saving seeds from our local greenspaces can support climate resiliency, promote biodiversity, and serve local wildlife and insects in our city. This process also supports the independence of local gardens and communities in providing locally adapted plants for their greenspaces.
The workshop will begin with an introduction to the basics of seed saving and transition to a walk throughout Pier 42 and East River Park. We will discuss the importance of saving seed, how to collect and process seeds, and how to grow the seeds we collect on our walk.
All necessary materials will be provided, but please dress/prepare to be outside for the duration of the event. Participants are encouraged to take home seed from the focus plants on our walk. This event is free and open to the public but registration is required.
