Fishing and Waterfront Education

Our fishing clinics offer a unique opportunity for the general public to fish and learn about the habitat and functions of our local waterways such as the Hudson River Estuary. Participants learn about estuary health, flora, fauna, and pollution sources and prevention, as well as health advisories associated with eating fish from our waterways. We provide bait, tackle, and instruction. Beginners and experienced anglers are welcome! Youth under 15 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

Programs are offered seasonally. Check our calendar for upcoming fishing events.

We aren’t the only ones that offer fishing opportunities! Check the DEC Learn to Fish resource for other fishing opportunities in New York City and throughout the state.

Femme Fishing

Femme fishing is fishing for everyone. Designed for femme, nonbinary, and allied cis friends, these events are led by femme environmental educators. When we were learning to fish, we noticed that many spaces were dominated by men and often felt unwelcoming to beginners. Femme Fishing was created to change that. We foster inclusive, supportive spaces where both new and experienced anglers can build community, explore our waterways, and develop new skills. Femme fishing events are a collaboration between the Lower East Side Ecology Center, Marieke Bender of Battery Park City Authority, and our community partners.
